If you have a theme and a plot, you have a product. It may not yet be the right product, but now you can make that decision. Put another way: The plot is simply your goal. That means that products come from within. They’re a function of your life. The theme is the goal’s meaning. That means there’s nothing arbitrary about a product; it has personal significance and universal importance. Identify those, and you have a story, or your very own widget. Stories are marketable, if they’re the right story at the right time. So it is with widgets. The generic widget, friends, doesn’t exist. This is just one model but, as a writer, it works for me.
